Jacqueline Fernandez grew up in Bahrain, Manama. She is Sri Lankan and comes from a diverse ethnic background. The father of Jacqueline, Elroy Fernandez is a Sri Lankan. Her brothers are elder as well as two younger brothers. She was born and raised in Bahrain. Her parents had moved there in the 1980s as a result of the turmoil that occurred in Sri Lanka. After her schooling in Bahrain, she was awarded an Scholarship to pursue a degree at Sydney's University of Sydney, where she completed a bachelor's diploma of Media and Communications in Sydney, Australia. Passionate about the languages and culture has led her to the Berlitz language school, where she improved on French as well as Arabic as she learned Spanish. The crown was awarded to Miss Sri Lanka 2006 for Miss Universe 2006 on March 6th, 2006 and also competed at Miss Universe 2006. In the wake of her 2006 Miss Sri Lanka win, Padukone stepped into the world of television and hosted a show about Sri Lankan business named Lanka Business Report. Padukone (the daughter of former badminton players Prakash Padukone) was born and grew up in Bangalore. When she was in her teens she played in national championships of badminton at both the regional and international and international levels. However, she left the sport to make a profession as designer. Padukone has Mangalorean origins and speaks Konkani as her mother tongue. Her ancestors hail from the village of Padukone located in Kundapura Taluk, in the Udupi district of Karnataka state of India. Prakash Padukone was a badminton legend, who retired in the late 1980s. The mother of her daughter, who worked for a travel agency also comes from the village.
